Overview
The prevalence of diabetes in elderly individuals in the US is growing and expected to double in the next 20 years. Adherence to treatment presents a significant challenge, particularly for those aged 70 years old and above. These individuals have unique challenges in the adherence to treatment due to their functional, social and financial status, as well as the presence of other chronic diseases and comorbidities. Multiple treatment options can be considered for diabetes, and there are several complications associated with diabetes type II, such as kidney disease, cardiovascular and neurovascular events, neuropathy, and vision loss.
We employed systemic tools to investigate and evaluate the problem of non-adherence to diabetes treatment. Through the use of personas, actor maps, social ecological maps, and feedback loops, we were able to simplify intricate issues into actionable research plans.
